Michael Saylor's company, Strategy, formerly known as MicroStrategy, has completed its 100th Bitcoin purchase, solidifying its position as the largest public corporate holder of the cryptocurrency.

The latest transaction involves the acquisition of 592 BTC for approximately 39.8 million USD at an average price of around $67 286 per token. This brings the company’s total holdings to over 717 000 BTC, accumulated at an average acquisition price of approximately $76 020 USD per token. The total amount invested amounts to approximately $54.56 billion.

At current market prices of $66 000, Strategy’s reserves are valued at just under $50 billion. The holdings represent over 3% of Bitcoin’s maximum capped supply of 21 million coins—a level of concentration that is unparalleled among public companies.

Unrealized losses amid long-term strategy

As the market price remains below the average acquisition cost, Strategy reports a significant unrealized loss, estimated between $5.7 and $6.7 billion. However, management continues to present volatility as an inevitable part of a multi-decade accumulation strategy, rather than a short-term speculative position.

The company emphasizes that Bitcoin is viewed as a long-term reserve asset on the balance sheet, a store-of-value instrument rather than a trading position subject to short-term price movements.

Balance sheet resilience in focus

Despite the massive exposure to the cryptocurrency, Strategy maintains that its financial position remains stable. Total debt amounts to approximately $8.2 billion, significantly less than the current market value of the BTC held.

Concentrated risk and strategic conviction

With more than 3% of the total Bitcoin supply in its hands, Strategy is executing one of the most concentrated corporate treasury management strategies in modern financial history.

Supporters see long-term potential in this approach should the asset continue to appreciate. Critics warn that the company’s fate and shareholder value are significantly tied to the price dynamics of a highly volatile asset.

For now, Strategy remains steadfast. The 100th BTC purchase reinforces management’s commitment to the systematic accumulation strategy—a bet whose ultimate outcome will depend on the long-term trajectory of the world’s largest cryptocurrency.
