FTX to Launch $900 Million Payout to Creditors This July
FTX announces its fifth distribution of $900 million starting July 31, with some creditor classes set to receive up to 120% of their claims.
The upcoming payment is part of an ongoing bankruptcy process that has evolved into one of the largest fund recovery operations in the history of the crypto industry. Following this latest distribution, several major creditor categories will receive more than 100% of the value of their allowed claims.
New Round of Payments Scheduled for July 31
The distribution covers creditors with allowed claims in the “Convenience” and “Non-Convenience” categories who met all preliminary requirements by June 16, 2026. These requirements include completing identity verification (KYC), submitting necessary tax documents, and registering with a selected payment service provider.
FTX announced that funds will be transferred via BitGo, Kraken, or Payoneer. Payments are expected to reach creditor accounts within one to three business days after the distribution begins.
The company added that future dates for subsequent payments will be announced in stages, depending on the progress of the asset recovery efforts.
Select Creditors to Receive Over 100% Recovery
This new tranche significantly increases the recovery percentage for several primary creditor classes.
| Category | Additional | Total |
|---|---|---|
| Class 5A (Dotcom Customers) | +9% | 105% |
| Class 5B (US Platform Customers) | +5% | 105% |
| Class 6A (General Unsecured) | +3% | 103% |
| Class 6B (Digital Asset Loan) | +3% | 103% |
| Class 7 (Convenience Claims) | – | 120% |
The fact that a significant portion of creditors is receiving more than the nominal value of their claims is highly unusual for bankruptcy proceedings. This outcome was made possible by successful asset sales, the recovery of substantial sums through legal proceedings, and the robust price appreciation of certain investments held by FTX since the exchange collapsed in 2022.
Additional Payments and Fraud Warning
Beyond the creditor distribution, FTX will also make a second payment to preferred shareholders. On July 31, an additional $18 million will be distributed, bringing the total funds paid out via the “Preferred Shareholder Remission Fund Trust” (PSRFT) to $95 million.
The company issued a stern warning to all creditors to use only the official “FTX Customer Portal” for information regarding the process. The exchange noted a rise in phishing attempts targeting affected users in recent months. FTX emphasized that it will never require users to connect a crypto wallet or provide private keys to receive funds.
This fifth round of payments signals that the bankruptcy proceedings are entering a more mature phase. As asset recovery continues, FTX remains a rare case in the crypto industry where a large number of creditors are receiving not only the full value of their allowed claims but also additional compensation.
