Ethereum Foundation Executes Major ETH Transfer Amid Internal Changes
The Ethereum Foundation recently transferred 160,000 ETH (roughly $654 million) to a wallet previously associated with Ethereum sales, according to blockchain analytics firm Arkham Intelligence.
The wallet has historically been used for transactions to platforms like Kraken and SharpLink Gaming, as well as a multisig address that sells ETH.
The foundation’s co-Executive Director, Hsiao-Wei Wang, clarified that the transfer was part of a planned wallet migration, but the move sparked renewed discussion about the organization’s spending practices.
This comes in the wake of former lead Ethereum developer Péter Szilágyi’s resurfaced concerns about the foundation’s operations.
In a letter originally sent last year, Szilágyi criticized the concentration of influence among Ethereum’s core leadership, including co-founder Vitalik Buterin, and highlighted that his own total compensation over six years was approximately $625,000 – despite Ethereum’s explosive market growth during that time. His comments reignited debate over compensation levels and transparency within the foundation.
The Ethereum Foundation has recently undergone significant changes, including developer layoffs and a restructuring of its ETH reserve management strategy, as it seeks to streamline operations and better allocate resources.
