Coinbase to Enter Prediction Market Race and Tokenized Equities, Report Says
Coinbase appears ready to push deeper into on-chain financial innovation, with Bloomberg reporting that the company is preparing to unveil both prediction markets and tokenized stock trading next week.
According to a source cited by the outlet, the exchange plans to formally reveal the new products during its December 17 showcase.
While Coinbase hasn’t confirmed the details, a company spokesperson encouraged users to watch the livestream, hinting that the event will contain several significant product announcements. Screenshots circulating on X earlier this month suggested the features were already being tested inside the Coinbase app.
A Strategic Move Into Two Fast-Growing Sectors
If confirmed, prediction markets would place Coinbase in direct competition with Kalshi and Polymarket – two platforms that have dominated the space and are now posting billions in monthly volume. Interest in event-based trading has exploded, with combined activity growing from roughly $1.3 billion in August to nearly $8 billion by November.
Tokenized equities, meanwhile, would mark an even more ambitious step. Bloomberg reports that Coinbase plans to build the offering internally rather than rely on a partner, signaling that the company intends to control the infrastructure needed to bring traditional securities onto blockchain rails.
Exchanges Rush Toward On-Chain Betting Markets
Coinbase isn’t the only exchange exploring this frontier. Gemini secured CFTC approval this week to operate a regulated event-contracts marketplace, and Crypto.com recently teamed up with Fanatics to launch a sports-focused prediction platform. The rapid expansion suggests that prediction markets – once a fringe corner of crypto – are quickly becoming a mainstream battleground for major exchanges.
