Circle integrates native USDC and the CCTP protocol into OKX's X Layer to enhance cross-chain liquidity, security, and decentralized finance access.

The integration aims to improve cross-border payments, liquidity, and access to decentralized financial services while simplifying asset transfers across different blockchain ecosystems.

USDC Becomes an Integrated Asset on X Layer

X Layer users can now utilize native USDC, which is fully collateralized and redeemable 1:1 for U.S. dollars. This update removes the requirement for “wrapped” versions of the token, which typically depend on external bridges between various blockchains.

According to Circle, native USDC provides a more reliable infrastructure for developers, institutional participants, and individual users utilizing X Layer for payments, trading, and decentralized applications.

The company expects this integration to accelerate the adoption of digital dollars within the OKX ecosystem, ensuring higher security and improved interoperability between separate blockchains.

CCTP Facilitates Seamless Cross-Chain Transfers

Alongside USDC, Circle has deployed its Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP). This protocol enables the transfer of USDC between supported networks using a burn-and-mint mechanism, where tokens are destroyed on the source chain and an equivalent amount is issued on the destination chain.

This method eliminates the need to lock liquidity in external bridges—an infrastructure that has frequently been targeted by hackers in the crypto industry over recent years.

Beyond enhanced security, the protocol promises faster transaction speeds, lower costs, and more efficient liquidity management across different blockchains.

Circle believes this new infrastructure will streamline cross-border payments and the movement of capital between DeFi applications, exchanges, and corporate payment systems.

OKX Expands Its Layer 2 Ecosystem

The integration targets a broad spectrum of applications within the OKX ecosystem, including U.S. dollar payments, decentralized lending, automated AI-driven financial processes, and cross-chain liquidity transfers.

Circle also anticipates that USDC will bolster liquidity for USD/USDC trading pairs on X Layer. This improvement could reduce price slippage during large trades and increase the overall efficiency of decentralized markets.

Qualified corporate clients will gain access to the Circle Mint service, allowing for the direct issuance and redemption of USDC through the company’s regulated infrastructure.

X Layer serves as a cornerstone of OKX’s strategy to build a dedicated blockchain ecosystem around its exchange. The platform is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), making it easy for developers to migrate existing applications and smart contracts.

With a global user base exceeding 120 million, OKX offers Circle access to one of the world’s largest crypto environments. This integration marks another step in Circle’s strategy to expand the presence of its stablecoin across various Layer 1 and Layer 2 networks as competition among digital dollar infrastructure providers continues to intensify.
