Circle agrees to acquire Tazapay, a B2B platform handling $25B annually, to bridge USDC stablecoin settlements with local bank networks in 100+ markets.

The deal is expected to close in 2027, pending necessary regulatory approvals, including those from the Monetary Authority of Singapore.

While financial terms were not disclosed, the acquisition grants Circle access to infrastructure that already processes over $25 billion in annual payments. This network connects more than 60 banking and fintech partners to local payment channels across over 100 markets.

Circle Acquires Ready-Made International Payment Network

Tazapay operates as a B2B payment company serving payment service providers and financial institutions. Rather than Circle building individual banking relationships and local channels in every market from scratch, this acquisition allows the company to integrate established infrastructure directly into its own network.

This integration is particularly vital for the “last mile” of cross-border transactions. While transferring USDC over a blockchain can happen almost instantly, recipients often need to receive local fiat currency through the traditional banking system. Tazapay’s local payment channels are designed to bridge this gap between blockchain settlement and legacy payments.

Circle identified the Asia-Pacific region and emerging markets as key areas where demand for USDC-denominated transactions continues to grow.

60% of Tazapay Volume Already Involves Stablecoins

The deal does not represent a pivot for Tazapay; approximately 60% of the company’s transaction volume already involves stablecoins. This existing alignment reduces the need for Circle to overhaul the infrastructure following the acquisition.

The two entities also share an operational history. Tazapay has been a partner of the Circle Payments Network since 2025, meaning the integration stems from an existing technological collaboration rather than a new partnership.

Current Tazapay customers should not expect immediate changes to services, APIs, pricing, or support. The company’s stablecoin services are managed through its Canadian subsidiary, Tazapay Canada Corp., and are restricted to payments and conversions between fiat currencies and stablecoins.

USDC Shifts Toward Payment Infrastructure Role

This acquisition highlights Circle’s broader post-IPO strategy. The company is actively working to expand the role of USDC beyond crypto asset trading, positioning it as core infrastructure for international money transfers.

The Circle Payments Network is central to this model, designed to connect financial institutions and payment firms through stablecoin settlement. Meanwhile, Arc adds a proprietary blockchain layer for institutional financial applications.

Tazapay provides the missing physical component to this architecture: the banking partnerships and local channels required for funds to enter and exit the blockchain ecosystem.

Focus Shifts to Real-World Volume Over Market Cap

For Circle, the ultimate value of the acquisition will depend on how much of Tazapay’s $25 billion annual volume can be transitioned through its own infrastructure.

This strategy creates a growth engine distinct from simply increasing USDC’s market capitalization. In international payments, the same stablecoin can be used repeatedly for settlement, making transaction velocity and volume separate, critical metrics for adoption.

The operation is not yet final. Completion is slated for 2027 and remains subject to standard closing conditions and regulatory greenlights. If approved, Circle will gain direct access to over 100 markets at a time when stablecoin competition is shifting from token issuance to the infrastructure that facilitates actual payment utility.
