Input Output Global (IOG) has released its latest Essential Cardano weekly development update, showcasing significant milestones across multiple areas of the ecosystem.

Catalyst and Education

At Catalyst Town Hall #204, Lovelace Academy joined to share its mission of expanding blockchain education. The academy now provides tutorials on Plutus, Aiken, and Midnight, with Portuguese translations to reach a broader community. In parallel, preparations are underway for the next Cardano Days event on September 26–27 at the University of Wyoming, part of the annual Wyoming Blockchain Stampede. This in-person event will spotlight Cardano’s expanding role in education and developer training.

Scaling and Governance

The Mithril team announced progress on scaling solutions, completing implementation of a mock DMQ node for end-to-end testing of decentralized signature diffusion. Updates to the DMQ protocol and its integration with Pallas and Mithril nodes are also underway, aimed at improving efficiency and robustness. On the governance front, IntersectMBO opened elections for its governing board (September 1–12), marking a major step in shaping Voltaire, Cardano’s new on-chain governance era.

Smart Contracts and Core Technology

The Plutus Core team delivered performance upgrades and added support for built-in units and pairs, to be activated in the upcoming hard fork. Meanwhile, the core technology team released cardano-lmdb-simple 0.8.1.0, improving snapshot functionality, efficiency, and overall code organization.

Wallets and Services

Daedalus v.7.2.0 is now live on mainnet, streamlining links to the new Project Catalyst portal, while enhancing wallet efficiency and compatibility with updated node versions.

By the Numbers

Cardano now hosts 2,009 active projects, 1.34 million delegated wallets, 10.9 million native tokens, and over 113.4 million transactions. The network also recorded 320 GitHub commits in the past week, underscoring continued momentum.

With simultaneous progress in governance, scaling, education, and developer tooling, Cardano is steadily advancing toward its long-term vision of a fully decentralized and globally adopted blockchain ecosystem.
