Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs See Inflows Amid Market Volatility
Spot Bitcoin ETFs end a 4-day outflow streak with $159.9M in net inflows, while Ethereum attracts $121.1M ahead of the Federal Reserve's rate decision.
BTC dropped to $76,828 and ETH fell below $2,500 as investors positioned themselves ahead of a critical Senate vote on the CLARITY Act and Wednesday’s Federal Reserve decision.
Bitcoin ETFs Break Outflow Streak
Institutional demand returned at the start of the week. U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds recorded $159.9 million in net inflows on September 14, ending a four-day streak of consecutive withdrawals.
According to data from FarSide Investors, the largest contribution came from BlackRock’s IBIT with $134.3 million, followed by Fidelity’s FBTC with $53.3 million. Morgan Stanley attracted $9.7 million, while Franklin Templeton’s EZBC added $4.6 million. ARKB was the only major fund to see negative flows, losing $42 million.
This reversal follows a significantly weaker previous week. Between September 8 and 11, Bitcoin ETFs lost approximately $462.7 million in total, interrupting a three-week run of net inflows.
Monday’s inflow serves as a vital signal of shifting short-term positioning, though it remains insufficient to fully offset last week’s heavy exits.
Ethereum Continues to Attract Capital
The situation for ETH appeared more resilient. Spot Ethereum ETFs recorded $121.1 million in net inflows on Monday, building on the previous week’s $197 million in gains.
BlackRock led the buying once again. ETHA attracted $80.5 million, while ETHB added $14.4 million, Fidelity’s FETH saw $8.9 million, TETH brought in $6.5 million, and Grayscale’s ETH recorded $16.2 million. The only negative flow was a $5.4 million withdrawal from QETH.
The performance gap between the two largest crypto assets remains telling. While Bitcoin funds endured serious withdrawals recently, Ethereum continued to pull in capital, marking its fourth consecutive week of net inflows.
Solana and XRP Start the Week with Inflows
Smaller spot ETF markets also enjoyed a positive session.
Solana funds attracted a total of $11 million, with $7.1 million flowing into Bitwise’s BSOL and another $3.9 million into Grayscale’s GSOL. This follows a relatively quiet previous week where Solana ETFs recorded roughly $10.3 million in net inflows.
XRP inflows reached $11.26 million, directed entirely toward the Bitwise fund according to the provided data. XRP was also one of the few major tokens in positive territory over the last 24 hours, rising 0.24% to approximately $1.39.
Hyperliquid ETFs saw no capital movement on September 14, following an $8.2 million outflow in the final session of the previous week.
The start of the week indicates broad institutional demand rather than capital concentrating solely in Bitcoin.
Two Political Tests Could Define the Next Move
The divergence between ETF flows and market prices occurs just before two potential market catalysts.
The Senate is scheduled to hold a procedural vote on the CLARITY Act on September 15, requiring 60 votes to proceed to debate. A day later, the Federal Reserve will announce its interest rate decision, with markets already pricing in a high probability of a 25-basis-point hike.
This combination explains why the recovery in ETF demand hasn’t yet translated into a BTC price rally. Institutional funds are buying again, but the short-term market is de-risking ahead of events that could simultaneously shift regulatory and macroeconomic expectations.
If positive ETF flows persist after the Washington decisions, the current price divergence may prove temporary. However, if Monday’s inflow remains an isolated event, the preceding four-day outflow streak will continue to weigh heavily on institutional demand sentiment.
