Bitcoin’s Exponential Growth Cools, Analyst Flags December 2025 as Key Point
Crypto analyst EGRAG Crypto has drawn attention to a long-term pattern in Bitcoin’s performance relative to the S&P 500, noting that while the trend remains upward, the degree of exponential growth is steadily decreasing.
Exponential vs. decelerating growth
EGRAG explains that exponential growth occurs when an asset’s value increases at a rate proportional to its size, leading to rapid acceleration over time. Bitcoin’s early cycles fit this description, marked by explosive upward moves.
However, the analyst highlights a shift toward decelerating growth, where each new cycle delivers smaller percentage gains compared to the previous one. While this reduces the magnitude of peaks, it also tends to extend the duration of growth phases, signaling that expansion continues but at a slower, more measured pace.
Bitcoin’s growth cycle breakdown
EGRAG’s chart outlines Bitcoin’s relative growth to the S&P 500 across four cycles:
- Cycle 1: 61%
- Cycle 2: 42%
- Cycle 3: 35%
- Cycle 4 (projected): 27% by December 2025
From these figures, the average decrease in cycle growth is 11.33%, while the overall reduction from Cycle 1 to Cycle 4 amounts to 55.74%.
This suggests that while Bitcoin continues to outperform traditional markets over long periods, its advantage is shrinking with each new cycle.
December 2025 could mark the next peak
Based on this framework, EGRAG projects that the current cycle could peak between December 2025 and Q1 2026. If the pattern holds, this peak would occur with a lower growth percentage than earlier cycles but would still represent a significant expansion relative to traditional assets.
The big picture
The analysis underscores Bitcoin’s evolution as it matures. Early cycles were defined by extreme volatility and outsized gains, but as adoption deepens and the asset integrates further with mainstream finance, growth is becoming steadier and less explosive.
For investors, this shift implies adjusting expectations – future rallies may still be powerful but are unlikely to mirror the exponential surges of Bitcoin’s earliest years.
