Abu Dhabi is set to become a new hub for Solana infrastructure after Solmate, a rebranded entity from Brera Holdings PLC, announced its launch with $300 million in capital. The initiative, revealed on September 18, was backed by Cathie Wood’s Ark Invest, the UAE’s Pulsar Group, RockawayX, and the Solana Foundation.

The money was raised through a private-in-public equity (PIPE) transaction, which was oversubscribed and led by Pulsar Group, indicating that institutional interest in Solana has increased. According to the announcement, the funds will be used to establish a Solana treasury in the UAE and to roll out staking hardware in Abu Dhabi. The initial undertaking will consist of rackmount servers that have been tailored for efficient Solana validation.

The head of Solmate comprises crypto law expert and ex-Kraken CLO Marco Santori as CEO, with economist Arthur Laffer and RockawayX’s Viktor Fischer as board members. Besides generating massive returns from SOL tokens, the company highlighted that its goal is to develop accessible yield avenues through Solana’s proof-of-stake system.

Solana’s Role in Institutional Expansion

Unlike Bitcoin, Solana is inherently yield-generating, allowing revenue to be directed to treasury holders via staking.

Solmate pointed out that presently, the Solana blockchain not only handles more transactions but also generates more on-chain revenue than any other blockchain.

For context, Solana’s price has seen sharp swings this week, recently pulling back to around $237 after testing resistance near $253. To understand Solana’s momentum, read our piece on Solana’s make-or-break moment.
