S&P Dow Jones and Kaiko Launch 4,000+ Crypto Indices
S&P Dow Jones Indices and Kaiko rebrand over 4,000 crypto indices to provide institutional-grade benchmarks for ETF issuers and asset managers.
This move pushes one of the most recognizable providers of traditional financial indices deeper into a market where institutional investors increasingly demand standardized benchmarks.
Over 4,000 Crypto Indices Move Under a Unified Brand
The deal brings together the existing crypto indices of S&P Dow Jones Indices with Kaiko’s reference prices and multi-asset indices. These will be rebranded as S&P Kaiko Digital Asset Indices and will operate on a single technological platform built on Kaiko’s infrastructure.
The division of roles reflects the specific strengths of both companies. Kaiko will be responsible for data collection, metric calculation, and methodology support, leveraging its 24/7 infrastructure and connections to more than 150 crypto exchanges.
S&P DJI, for its part, will provide the infrastructure for administration, licensing, and global distribution. The company holds administrator status under the European “Benchmarks Regulation,” and its methodologies align with the IOSCO principles for financial indices.
ETF Issuers Gain New Institutional Infrastructure
A critical aspect of the partnership is how these indices can be utilized by the financial industry. S&P and Kaiko are targeting asset managers, ETF issuers, exchanges, and providers of structured products who require standardized pricing and methodologies for digital assets.
Existing financial instruments already using Kaiko’s reference prices or indices will be able to transition to the new S&P Kaiko brand.
This includes exchange-traded products, futures, options, and structured instruments.
While this does not mean S&P and Kaiko are launching their own crypto ETF, the index serves as the essential benchmark for creating and valuing such products. Reliable pricing is the cornerstone of institutional trust.
Why Benchmarks Matter for the Crypto Market
In traditional markets, indices like the S&P 500 serve a much broader function than simply tracking price movements. They act as the foundation for ETFs, derivatives, and structured products, allowing investors to compare the performance of different portfolios.
The crypto market introduces additional complexity because trading occurs 24/7 across multiple exchanges with varying liquidity and price quotes.
The new structure combines these two worlds: S&P DJI’s traditional financial index management model and Kaiko’s infrastructure, specifically designed for the continuous nature of digital asset markets.
S&P Deepens Its Digital Asset Presence
This partnership is not S&P DJI’s first foray into the crypto sector. The company already maintains its own digital asset indices, and a methodology published in February 2026 outlines the rules for calculating and managing the existing S&P Digital Assets Indices series.
The current shift is one of scale and infrastructure. Rather than S&P and Kaiko maintaining separate product lines, the offerings are being consolidated under a single brand and platform. Meanwhile, Kaiko Indices S.A. will retain its legal name and registration under the European BMR regime.
For the institutional crypto market, the long-term impact may be more significant than the rebranding itself. The expansion of ETFs, derivatives, and tokenized financial products increases the need for independent reference prices for valuation and settlement. The new S&P Kaiko structure places this infrastructure under a globally recognized index brand as the digital asset market moves closer to the standards of traditional capital markets.
