Grayscale Zcash ETF (ZCSH) debuts on NYSE Arca as the first US spot privacy coin ETF, following a 60% ZEC price rally and conversion of the Zcash Trust.

The new Grayscale Zcash ETF has officially commenced trading on NYSE Arca under the ticker ZCSH, marking the first-ever spot ETF in the U.S. focused on a privacy-centric cryptocurrency.

This product does not start from zero. It is the successor to the Grayscale Zcash Trust, allowing the firm to migrate an existing asset base into the ETF structure. Before the conversion, the trust managed over $260 million, with its initial funding including 200,000 ZEC provided by a subsidiary of Digital Currency Group.

The fund carries an annual sponsorship fee of 2.5%, a figure significantly higher than the costs associated with major Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs. Coinbase Custody Trust Company will serve as the custodian for the underlying ZEC tokens, while the Bank of New York acts as the transfer agent.

Zcash Opens a New Frontier for the Crypto ETF Market

The listing carries broader significance beyond simply adding another digital asset to the U.S. ETF market. Until now, sector expansion focused primarily on assets like BTC and ETH, followed by other large-cap cryptocurrencies.

Zcash presents a unique regulatory challenge due to its privacy-focused architecture.

The network supports both transparent and shielded transactions, where specific information can be hidden using cryptographic mechanisms.

This functionality has made “privacy” tokens a sensitive topic for exchanges and regulators, who must balance digital asset access with anti-money laundering (AML) requirements and financial oversight.

While the arrival of a regulated ETF does not eliminate these questions, it changes how investors gain exposure. Rather than holding ZEC directly and managing private keys or crypto wallets, investors can now purchase shares of the fund through a traditional brokerage account.

This places Zcash within an investment wrapper familiar to institutional investors, even as the underlying asset retains the characteristics that distinguish it from more transparent blockchains.

Listing Arrives Amid a Sharp ZEC Price Spike

The debut coincides with a significant rally for Zcash. At the time of writing, ZEC is trading around $82, having gained over 60% in the last seven days according to recent market data. The token’s market capitalization stands at approximately $13.8 billion.

This timing means the ETF is debuting in an environment where investor interest is already elevated, rather than the fund having to generate initial demand on its own.

Data provided by Grayscale Research offers further context. “Shielded” transactions account for approximately 90% of Zcash’s total volume, while roughly 4.2 million ZEC—about one-quarter of the circulating supply—resides in protected pools.

This suggests that privacy features are not merely an optional protocol add-on but an increasingly significant part of how the network is utilized.

ETF Structure Could Shift Demand Profile

For Grayscale, this conversion follows a strategy the company has employed with other crypto products: transforming an existing private or trust instrument into an exchange-traded fund to provide easier access and potentially greater liquidity.

However, Zcash presents a different test. The high 2.5% fee may limit its appeal to long-term investors, particularly if competing products with lower costs emerge in the future.

On the other hand, the primary advantage is accessibility. ZCSH provides a regulated channel to an asset that was previously difficult for many traditional investors to access due to exchange restrictions, custody hurdles, and internal compliance rules.

Consequently, the initial trading sessions for ZCSH will be critical not just for Grayscale. Trading volume and asset flows within the fund will serve as the first signal of whether the strong Zcash rally can translate into sustained demand from investors using traditional U.S. capital markets.
