MoonPay Launches PayBox to Bridge AI with Real-World Payments
MoonPay debuts PayBox, a non-custodial payment vault allowing ChatGPT and Claude users to execute crypto transactions and DeFi investments via chat.
MoonPay is positioning its latest product as a bridge between generative artificial intelligence and real-world payment execution, allowing users to complete transactions without leaving their conversation.
PayBox Connects AI Assistants to Financial Operations
By connecting PayBox to ChatGPT or Claude via a specialized connector, users can perform financial operations through a chat interface. MoonPay highlighted several use cases, including purchasing cryptocurrency, investing funds into DeFi protocols like Aave to optimize yields, or booking flight tickets.
According to the company, the product addresses the “execution gap.” This occurs when AI models can analyze data, compare offers, and provide recommendations but lack a secure mechanism to finalize the actual transaction. PayBox aims to transform conversational interfaces into environments where users can not only gather information but also execute tangible purchases and payments.
Users Retain Full Control Over Funds
PayBox utilizes a non-custodial architecture, ensuring that MoonPay does not store or control user funds. Instead, users grant limited permissions to the AI agent, which can be modified or revoked at any time.
The platform features robust security measures, including passkey protection, spending limits, payment approval notifications, and customized rules for every operation.
MoonPay emphasizes that this setup allows users to pre-define what actions an AI assistant can take without ever sharing passwords or sensitive financial data.
The technological foundation of PayBox is x402—an open standard for machine payments. It was designed to ensure compatibility across various applications, merchants, and blockchain ecosystems rather than being restricted to a single platform.
MoonPay Expands Its AI Finance Strategy
At launch, PayBox supports Solana, along with Ethereum, Base, Polygon, Arbitrum, Hyperliquid, Tempo, and Robinhood Chain, enabling its use across diverse networks.
This product launch is part of MoonPay’s broader “agentic finance” strategy—a model where AI systems do more than provide information by performing specific financial actions on behalf of the user. The new service builds upon the MoonAgents infrastructure and follows the acquisition of Dawn Labs earlier this year.
With the release of PayBox, MoonPay joins the ranks of companies building infrastructure for the next generation of digital payments, where AI assistants interact securely with financial services. The company is betting that the combination of conversational interfaces, blockchain technology, and user-controlled funds will accelerate AI adoption in e-commerce and daily financial tasks.
