Major European Bank Takes Bold Leap Into Stablecoins
ClearBank, one of the U.K.’s leading cloud-native banks, is expanding into digital assets through a new partnership with Circle, the issuer behind USDC and EURC.
The alliance marks a major step toward bringing stablecoin-based payments into Europe’s regulated financial system.
Under the agreement, ClearBank will integrate with Circle Mint – the platform that allows financial institutions to mint and redeem USDC and EURC directly on the blockchain. The bank is also set to join the Circle Payments Network, becoming one of the first European banks to do so. This move will connect ClearBank’s infrastructure to Circle’s settlement rails, paving the way for faster, cheaper, and more transparent cross-border transactions.
Circle’s stablecoins already comply with the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation, making them one of the few globally recognized tokens to meet the bloc’s standards. The partnership gives ClearBank a front-row seat in shaping how traditional finance integrates with blockchain technology.
ClearBank CEO Mark Fairless described the move as “a milestone in our evolution as a cross-border payments innovator,” emphasizing that Circle’s model is “changing how money moves worldwide.”
The collaboration may also open doors for future projects – such as tokenized asset settlement and stablecoin-powered treasury management – signaling a broader strategy to merge modern banking with blockchain efficiency.
Circle’s latest partnership follows its recent deal with Deutsche Börse, announced in September, which will bring USDC and EURC trading to the 3DX exchange.
