Bitget Challenges MetaMask with Multi-Chain Stablecoin Gas Payments
Bitget Wallet has rolled out a major update that lets users cover transaction fees with stablecoins instead of native gas tokens.
The upgrade, powered by Ethereum’s EIP-7702, enables gas payments in USDT, USDC, or BGB across multiple blockchains, including Ethereum, Solana, Base, TRON, Polygon, Arbitrum, BNB Chain, and Optimism.
The new feature is part of Bitget’s “gas abstraction” initiative, designed to make crypto transactions more seamless. EIP-7702 allows a regular wallet address to temporarily act as a smart contract wallet, adding advanced functions like bundled transactions and third-party gas sponsorship.
According to Bitget Wallet’s Chief Marketing Officer, Jamie Elkaleh, the feature brings the convenience of centralized exchanges to self-custody, letting users transact across networks without juggling gas tokens.
Unlike competing wallets that support gas abstraction only on limited chains or require special smart account upgrades, Bitget’s integration works across both EVM and non-EVM ecosystems.
With this move, Bitget Wallet enters direct competition with MetaMask, OKX Wallet, and Base App, which are currently developing their own gas abstraction systems.
