Ethereum Developers Approve 60M Gas Limit in Upcoming Fusaka Upgrade
Ethereum developers have officially approved a plan to raise the network’s gas limit to 60 million as part of the forthcoming Fusaka upgrade, signaling a major step to boost throughput and meet rising demand for block space.
The decision was confirmed on September 25 by Ethereum Foundation contributor Tim Beiko during the All Core Devs Execution (ACDE) call #221.
Beiko added that Fusaka’s testnet rollouts will begin in October, with a mainnet launch expected soon after. This marks an acceleration from the developers’ earlier tentative target of December.
ACDE TL;DR:
– Fusaka going live on testnets through October 🚢
– Mainnet 60M gas limit with Fusaka releases 📈
– Glamsterdam EIP proposals deadline next month 📆
– Formalizing "EIP Champion" role 🤴
– @adietrichs chairing ACDE till EOY starting next call 🤝 https://t.co/sbx7RJKA0I— timbeiko.eth (@TimBeiko) September 25, 2025
The Fusaka upgrade is designed to allow Ethereum to process a greater number of transactions per block, directly addressing congestion and high fees that have plagued the network during peak demand. By expanding the gas limit, developers aim to improve transaction efficiency without compromising security.
Beiko also shared further updates: the Glamsterdam EIP proposal deadline is set for next month, and Ethereum’s governance process will see the formalization of an EIP Champion role. Additionally, developer Adi Etrichs will chair ACDE calls through the end of 2025.
The coordinated roadmap highlights Ethereum’s focus on scaling and governance improvements as it prepares for another wave of user and institutional adoption.
