The newest iPhone 17 carries the same dollar price tag as its predecessors - $799 - but its cost in Bitcoin tells a very different story. At launch in 2025, the device requires just 0.0072 BTC, almost half the amount needed for last year’s iPhone 16.

iPhone 17: Just 0.0072 BTC

The drop in Bitcoin terms comes from BTC’s sharp price surge over the past year. When the iPhone 16 debuted in 2024, Bitcoin traded around $57,000. By the iPhone 17 launch, it had climbed above $111,000, a 94% jump. As a result, the new iPhone’s Bitcoin cost fell by nearly 49%.

Even Apple’s premium models reflect this shrinking BTC footprint. The iPhone 17 Air ($999) costs 0.0090 BTC, the Pro model ($1,099) about 0.0099 BTC, and the Pro Max ($1,199) just 0.0108 BTC.

From Hundreds of BTC to Fractions

Looking back shows just how dramatically things have changed. In 2011, the iPhone 4S launch price translated to more than 160 BTC, back when the cryptocurrency traded for just a few dollars. By 2013, an iPhone 5 still required over 50 BTC. Today, one iPhone costs less than one-hundredth of a single coin.

The declining iPhone price in Bitcoin terms highlights the asset’s deflationary nature. As supply remains capped and adoption grows, BTC’s purchasing power continues to rise. Everyday items that once required whole coins now cost only small fractions, reinforcing Bitcoin’s role as a long-term store of value.
