At ETHKyiv 2025, over 100 developers gathered in wartime Ukraine to build privacy-first dApps and showcase the power of Web3 resilience.

But the most headline-grabbing moments came from Ethereum leaders Vitalik Buterin and Tomasz K. Stańczak, who joined remotely to reveal two major breakthroughs.

Vitalik Buterin announced that Ethereum users will soon be able to run full nodes on smartphones or even smartwatches, eliminating the need for heavy infrastructure. This leap will be enabled by zkEVM technology, which drastically reduces node size by verifying transactions without storing the full blockchain. These advancements promise to make Ethereum more private, decentralized, and accessible for everyday users.

Tomasz Stańczak confirmed that Ethereum Layer 1 will reach 400 transactions per second (TPS) by the end of 2025. He also unveiled Ethereum’s plan to implement 3-Slot Finality by late 2026, cutting block confirmation times from 15 minutes to just 36 seconds. Block gas limits will increase to 60 million soon, with a goal of 100 million later this year.

These milestones are designed to boost Ethereum’s core infrastructure, ensuring it can anchor the broader Layer 2 ecosystem while maintaining decentralization and security. With faster speeds and mobile-friendly nodes, Ethereum is poised to deliver a Web2-like experience without sacrificing Web3 values.

Buterin summed up the goal: “Make Ethereum private, censorship-resistant, and easy enough for anyone to use daily.”
