Ai16z Rebrands to ElizaOS as Project Moves to Next Phase

An emerging AI agent development platform has rebranded from Ai16z to ElizaOS, distancing itself from any unintended associations with venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz.

The project, which provides an open-source framework for building and managing AI agents, has seen rapid expansion, prompting the shift to a more distinct identity.

Founder Shaw Walters explained that the name change is part of a broader effort to enhance collaboration with established industry players. Initially launched with a reference to a16z, the project gained traction after raising $75,000 on daos.fun. However, as it became one of the most widely used AI agent platforms in the blockchain sector, concerns over brand confusion led to the decision to adopt a fresh identity.

Since its launch, the platform has experienced exponential growth, with its assets under management surging 300x in just three months. Walters emphasized that this rebranding is part of a larger evolution, with development now focused on the upcoming Eliza v2 upgrade.

Andreessen Horowitz’s crypto lead, Chris Dixon, acknowledged in a recent podcast that the firm had requested the AI project to change its name to prevent misunderstandings. Despite the rebrand, the project’s token will continue to trade under the ai16z ticker for the time being, with any potential updates subject to a community vote via a DAO governance mechanism.

At present, ElizaOS’s token is valued at $0.60, with a market cap exceeding $600 million, underscoring its rapid rise in the AI and blockchain space. Walters confirmed that no additional tokens will be issued as part of this transition.
