Tron’s Justin Sun is Elected Prime Minister of Liberland

Tron founder Justin Sun has taken on a new role as Prime Minister of Liberland, a self-proclaimed micronation located between Croatia and Serbia.

Liberland announced Sun’s election in a statement Tuesday, along with the election of entrepreneur Evan Luthra and journalist Gillian Godsill as members of Congress.

Founded in 2015 by Czech politician Vit Jedlicka, Liberland claims to be the first country to adopt Bitcoin (BTC) as its official currency. Its decentralized government operates through an online platform that allows residents to participate in governance.

For recent elections, Liberia used a blockchain-based voting system to ensure transparency and remove doubt about the election results. The government seeks to set an example for modern electoral processes that could become standard practice in the future.

Sun’s political path follows his previous diplomatic role where he was Grenada’s Permanent Representative to the World Trade Organization (WTO) from 2021 to 2023. Despite stepping down from that role, the billionaire continues to use the title “His Excellency” on his social media accounts.

The 7 km² territory of Liberland, which is claimed by neither Croatia nor Serbia, represents an ongoing experiment in decentralised governance and blockchain technology.
