Telegram Removes FAQ Section on Private Chat Moderation Amid Controversy

Late on Thursday, Telegram users noticed that the app had changed its frequently asked questions (FAQ) by removing a section for moderating private group chats.
Previously, it stated that all Telegram chats and group chats were private to their participants.
However, this has now been changed, with users allowed to report illegal content in private chats via the “report” button or abuse hotline.
Although this comment has been removed in one section of the FAQ, it still appears in the section dedicated to bot copyright violations, where Telegram claims private chats remain unmoderated.
These changes come shortly after Telegram’s co-founder, Pavel Durov, was arrested in France, facing charges related to the platform’s role in facilitating illegal activities, including drug trafficking and the distribution of child pornography.
French officials have criticised Telegram for insufficient action against criminal use of the app.
