The XRP Ledger has taken a significant leap forward with the release of version 2.5.0 of its core software, Rippled — a rollout that developers are calling one of the most impactful updates in the project’s history.
This latest release, developed by RippleX and supported by contributors across the XRP ecosystem, introduces a suite of powerful tools aimed at expanding the network’s utility without sacrificing speed or decentralization. Among the most anticipated features are TokenEscrow, which brings escrow functionality to IOUs and other token types, and Batch, allowing multiple transactions to be grouped and executed simultaneously — a major benefit for decentralized applications.
The upgrade also introduces PermissionedDEX, a framework for building decentralized exchanges with built-in access controls and compliance features, and PermissionDelegation, which enables users to delegate account permissions securely — opening the door for enterprise wallets and automation.
Beyond features, the update comes with core performance enhancements. These include faster transaction processing, smarter validator communications, tighter RPC standards, and support for modern development tools through a revamped build system.
Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse weighed in on social media, calling the release “a milestone for the XRP Ledger” and praising the collaborative effort that went into making it possible.
With the code now live, validators across the network must vote to activate the changes. For the amendments to take effect, at least 80% of validators must signal approval over a two-week span. The community is being encouraged to upgrade promptly to keep the network aligned.
This release signals a strong push toward making the XRP Ledger more developer-friendly, programmable, and regulation-ready — qualities increasingly important in the evolving world of blockchain finance.
