On August 8, 2024, Ethereum developers met for the 139th All Core Developers Consensus (ACDC) call, chaired by Alex Stokes.
Key discussions included updates to the Pectra upgrade and issues with the Beacon Chain’s consensus layer.
Pectra Devnet 2 Hsiao Wei Wang announced the alpha.4 release of the Pectra consensus layer, with 85% network participation. Issues persist with EthereumJS, Erigon, and minor bugs in the Prysm client, as well as concerns with Lighthouse, Teku, and Besu nodes.
Coordination for Devnet 3 To address past communication lapses, weekly meetings will be held to update teams on Pectra testing. Devnet 3 will use the EIP 7702 design. Issues with EIP 7251 from Devnet 2 will be further examined in upcoming tests.
Protocol Transition and EIP 7688 The transition from Mplex to yamux was discussed, with some clients still testing yamux. EIP 7688’s inclusion in Pectra was debated; it may be considered again for Devnet 5.
PeerDAS and Node Distribution PeerDAS updates included debates on the “blobsidecar” Engine API and EIP 7742. ProbeLab reported that 42% of Ethereum’s 8,335 nodes use Lighthouse, with many hosted in data centers.
The call ended with a push for prompt decisions on execution payload changes to keep development on track.
MetaMask is making a major leap beyond Ethereum by adding support for Solana, marking its first deep integration with a non-EVM blockchain.
A significant portion of Ethereum validators are backing a proposal to nearly double the network’s block gas limit—an adjustment that could boost Layer 1 throughput without requiring a protocol upgrade.
