As 2025 approaches, there are expectations that more corporations will follow the trend of adding Bitcoin to their balance sheets, according to an analyst from market-making firm Wintermute.
Jake Ostrovskis, an OTC trader at Wintermute, believes that the increasing participation of large companies, following the example set by institutions and listed firms, will be a major driver in the upcoming year. He also predicts that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) will likely join this movement, further expanding the pool of corporate investors in Bitcoin.
The strategy, known for its use by MicroStrategy, has seen the company amass $10 billion worth of Bitcoin, with plans to purchase another $42 billion using its equity. This approach has inspired other companies, like Bitcoin mining firms Mara and Riot, to issue convertible notes in order to acquire more Bitcoin. Additionally, companies like Metaplanet are exploring new avenues, with plans to raise $31.8 million in bonds to accelerate their Bitcoin acquisitions.
According to Ostrovskis, the growing interest from corporations is fueling a more dynamic approach to Bitcoin investments compared to traditional methods such as pension funds and sovereign wealth funds. While much of the focus has been on the potential impact of Bitcoin ETFs, Ostrovskis points out that corporate capital is moving more swiftly and freely in comparison, making it an important factor in the cryptocurrency’s future growth.
Ostrovskis suggests that it’s only a matter of time before companies adopt similar strategies for Ethereum, which could lead to the creation of the “MicroStrategy” of the Ethereum world.
