2024's presidential election has come to an end as Donald Trump has been chosen by the american people to step in as the new president of the United States.
After much delays and requests to extend the voting hours in some disctricts, the election day has come to and end. Donald Trump is officially the 47th president of the United States of America,
Trump, who served as president before Joe Biden’s term, won with massive support from republicans from all over the country and bested the democrat’s representative Kamala Harris, who took Joe Biden’s place in the race.
His victory, achieved by winning decisive states, signals his return to the political stage after an extensive election campaign.
Early Wednesday, news agencies confirmed Trump’s victory as his electoral vote count surpassed the 270 needed to secure the presidency. His success came after significant wins in key swing states like Georgia and Pennsylvania, which he had lost to Joe Biden in 2020.
As an additional victory for the Republican Party, they successfully flipped Senate seats previously held by Democrats in states such as West Virginia and Ohio, thereby securing a majority. This shift provides Trump with a more favorable path to advance his agenda.
However, control of the House of Representatives remains undecided. Currently, Republicans hold a slight lead, but ongoing vote counts in crucial races mean that the balance of power is still uncertain.
On the Democratic side, Kamala Harris, the party’s candidate, claimed 14 states, including major electoral centers such as California, New York, and Washington. Despite her strong showing there, her total of 189 electoral votes lags significantly behind Trump, who continues to widen his lead.
Following decisive victories in Georgia and other battleground states, Trump is expected to address his supporters soon to deliver his first speech as the newly elected president and outline his vision for the upcoming term.
With major supporters like the richest man on Earth, Elon Musk, Trump was favoured to be elected, according to different sources, such as the prediction market Polymarket, where he had significant advantage.
And it is not just Elon Musk – most business owners, Wallstreet and big corporations were big supporters of Trump.
