El Salvador Partners with NVIDIA to Launch its First National AI Lab

El Salvador is taking a major step toward becoming a regional leader in artificial intelligence.

On April 21, the country’s Bitcoin Office announced a letter of intent with NVIDIA to launch El Salvador’s first national AI Lab.

The lab will focus on developing local AI infrastructure and training domestic talent. Bitcoin Office Director Stacy Herbert described the project as a milestone in the country’s push for tech independence.

Through this partnership, El Salvador will gain access to NVIDIA’s advanced AI tools, supporting initiatives in healthcare, education, and economic development. The agreement also includes developing AI-powered weather forecasting tools to improve disaster response and energy management.

National training programs will accompany the launch, targeting students, researchers, and government workers to build a skilled AI workforce.

The country is also expanding AI education through its CUBO_AI program, which offers university-level courses via public learning centers. The first lecture will feature ARK Invest’s Cathie Wood. Meanwhile, the ARK Educate pilot has already reached 20 schools and nearly 19,000 students.

In February, El Salvador introduced its first national AI legislation, promoting open-source innovation and setting clear rules for AI development and use.
