This means that major banks and licensed financial institutions in Australia can issue, hold, and use the digital Australian dollar directly on the blockchain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Technologically, the <strong>XRP Ledger<\/strong> offers significant advantages for payment infrastructure\u2014transactions are finalized in approximately 3 to 5 seconds, with fees costing only fractions of a cent. For institutions processing high volumes of payments, this efficiency represents a serious improvement over traditional payment systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Part of a Broader Regulatory Reform<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The licensing of <strong>AUDD<\/strong> is part of a broader reform of crypto regulation in Australia. The \u201cCorporations Amendment (Digital Assets Framework) Bill 2025\u201d aims to place crypto platforms under rules similar to those for traditional financial institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the proposed rules, platforms that hold more than $5,000 per client or process over $10 million in annual transactions will be required to hold an <strong>AFSL<\/strong> license.
