Are Trump\u2019s China Tariffs a Genuine Threat?<\/h2>\n

There have been at least five separate times during Trump\u2019s second term when he announced tariffs on China. Each announcement caused short-term volatility across risk markets \u2013 but none were as damaging to crypto investors as last week\u2019s.<\/span><\/p>\n

So what changed? Some analysts suggest that the sell-off was not driven solely by the tariff talk, but rather the tariffs served as an interchangeable catalyst that was needed to clear the excessive leverage that had accumulated in the market. In other words, the tariffs weren\u2019t the cause of the collapse, but the pin that burst the bubble.<\/span><\/p>\n

Data from Coinglass<\/a> shows that the crypto market\u2019s open interest hit an all-time high (ATH) of $233 billion in October, but it has since fallen back to mid-July\u2019s level, with roughly $65 billion wiped out.<\/span><\/p>\n
