The seized Bitcoin<\/a><\/strong>, discovered as part of an investigation into his misconduct, has brought attention to corruption within Russia\u2019s law enforcement.<\/p>\n

Tambiev, once a key figure in Moscow\u2019s Tver District, was found guilty of accepting Bitcoin as a bribe to protect the interests of the Infraud Organization, a criminal syndicate he was investigating.<\/p>\n

The illicit exchange occurred when Tambiev agreed not to seize the group\u2019s illegal assets in return for Bitcoin payments. Authorities uncovered the stash of Bitcoin on his personal devices, including a Ledger Nano X hardware wallet, during a raid on his Moscow apartment.<\/p>\n

The case escalated when Tambiev was sentenced to 16 years in prison and fined 500 million rubles ($5.2 million) for his actions, with his public office rank revoked and a ban from government positions for 12 years after release.<\/p>\n

Tambiev\u2019s bribery scheme involved not only him but also his colleagues, including Kristina Lyakhovenko, who received a nine-year sentence for accepting similar bribes. Meanwhile, a third individual, Dmitry Gubin, who was involved, remains at large.<\/p>\n

In addition to the Bitcoin, Russian authorities are now seeking to confiscate further assets linked to Tambiev, including real estate and other valuables believed to have been acquired through illegal means.
