Nearly $5 million worth of USDT<\/a><\/strong> was recently confiscated<\/a><\/strong>, with the funds traced back to wallets used in a scam known as \u201cpig butchering.\u201d<\/p>\n

This scam involves fraudsters forming fake romantic relationships with victims to convince them to invest in bogus cryptocurrency ventures. The perpetrators tried to obscure the origins of the stolen funds by funneling them through numerous wallets. However, the FBI\u2019s investigative team successfully tracked the transactions across these wallets.<\/p>\n

Michael Easley, a U.S. Attorney, stressed the urgency of the situation, noting that funds are often quickly transferred to overseas cryptocurrency accounts, making recovery challenging. \u201cWe are determined to reclaim every dollar from these criminals, regardless of their location, and return it to the victims,\u201d Easley said.<\/p>
